Kinja'd!!!

List your cars problems and lets see who drives the biggest hunk of junk. Lets say they have to be road legal and drivable, since those with project cars in bits will obviously win.

My e36:

Rusty throughout,

Various fluid leaks, not sure what at this time

Paint is garbage

Front wings dont fit

Every front end panel is misaligned

Minor accident damage to the front

Excessive driveline shunt that I havent had time to look at

Power steering pump groaning near full lock

Sticky throttle

Rear wiper broken

Needs an alignment

Clunk from front suspension

Mismatched wheels

Hard to get into 1st gear

Passenger side is wavy the full way along and mostly filler from badly repaired crash damage.

I could go on but this would get too long and boring. What you got oppo?

I actually love the E36 and dont have to rely on it as a DD (even though im daily driving it this week) so the problems dont matter so much. I bought it for not much and inherited all these issues.

E46:

Sunroof shade is off tracks/stuck open

Oil level sensor is NFG

Car tramlines something fierce - no idea why

A-pillar and B-pillar trim fabric refuses to stay secured to the pillars because it is the devil

Rear driver tire has a slow leak but I am lazy

Willys:

Overheats at speed, but cools effectively at idle or low RPM. Wondering if it’s cavitation at the water pump or just a shitty radiator, or if the brick-like aerodynamics prevent enough air from going through the radiator at highway speeds.

Transfer case tried to eat itself

Engine leaks like a sieve

I guess it depends on your definition of “wrong.” Charlie’s rusty as shit, which is the only thing wrong with it from my perspective, but everyone else complains about the paint, straight pipes, stripped interior, rock-hard one piece racing seats, lack of airbags, harsh ride, leaky t-tops, there not being a straight panel on it, bumper with pieces ripped off, and holes in the floor. Oh, and he actively tries to kill whoever’s driving.

The funny thing is that in the little over a year, I have owned this piece of junk(and it is peace of junk because the previous owner never did any proper maintenance) the car never failed to start. Even at -14 C, with 3 working glow plugs it.

The Italians did a lot of wrong things, but the diesel engines were not one of those things.

Paint on the hood is shot (lots of scratches and rusty rock chips)

Crease under drivers tail light

wavyness to the metal on the tail gate

Squeaky steering column bushing

Something is wrong with the antenna but I only use bluetooth so whatever.

My backpack pushed the panel which covers the space which holds the amp in so now I can’t get it open.

Um, what else... I don’t like the rims my snow tires are on?

That’s all I got.

This is what my e36 will soon become. Its getting stripped soon and the stock backbox is going in the bin (its rusted out anyway). Straight pipes are a no go because of our inspections but something less restrictive for sure. No cool t tops or mid engine goodness though unfortunately.

The passenger door squeaks, the rear-window demister has been broken for about four years, and there are spiders living in both the wing mirrors.

Oh, and for some reason the radio can’t get a clean Radio 1 signal anymore, but I honestly think that’s probably the car saving me from myself, so I’ll actually chalk it up as a feature.

Can always put a muffler on it and replace it with a test pipe when you’re done with the inspections. Won’t really do mugh power-wise unless it’s pretty epically tuned, but saves a ton of weight.

Since my project car is newly licensed and insured it qualifies!

Bent hood hinges

Horrible and mismatched paint

Fenders/doors/hood/nose do not line up

Trunk lock busted. Have to open with a screwdriver

Still working on quarterpanel rust

Weatherstripping toasted

Wrong wiper arms

Headlight bezel nuts missing

Grill nuts missing

Lower front valance dented to hell

Rear bumper misaligned mostly likely due to collision

Rear spoiler chipped and misaligned

Rear deck lid misaligned

Trunk lid torsion spring worn out, trunk lid will not stay open

Missing torque converter cover

Missing one of the horns. Sounds like a bleating goat

Speedometer bounce

Some inoperative dash lights

Seats need new upholstery

Headliner is toast

And the latest one, windshield chipped!

reseal front windshield

new exhaust and cats probably coming soon

re-align front DS window (doesn’t close quite right since I messed with it last)

New tires in the spring

Many small dents to care about or not (haven’t decided)

new/used front bumper if I feel like it.

other mods (airbags for the rear, roof rack, aux electrical circuit with battery, etc)

Yeah, I remember you had a lot of trouble with that thing.

My 106 has been pretty much faultless - as sixteen year old hatchbacks go, anyway - from the day I bought it, and whenever things do break - which is generally more my fault than the car’s - it’s cheap as chips to fix.

About the only major fault I can think of that wasn’t, well, my fault - or at least the fault of some prick crashing into me - was when the crank sensor gave up the ghost. And that’s only a ‘major’ fault in the sense that it, y’know, meant the car wouldn’t start—it wasn’t expensive to fix.

My list of problems:

There is a squeeking noise coming from the engine after running at low revs for a while(eg traffic jam) it is related to the revs, so both me and the mechanics in the shop are thinking some bearing on the serpentine belt, either a tensioner or the bearing of the alternator since it seems to be slightly related to electric load. It has been at two different Renault shops for it, but both couldn’t reproduce it in order to find it.

There are some brown spot on the rear of the car, probably dirt settled in the paint. Need to claybar it, or use something like iron X to clean it, but haven’t gotten around to it. Previous owner didn’t take very good care of it.

Some small scratches caused by others while parked, another deep gash on the rear bumper caused by me backing into a low rusty pole hidden into a autumn-y hedge.

The boomerang stickers are getting slightly tired, they look like they were made of some cheap sticker material, very different from normal wrap. Not really a problem yet, but I’m worried about them getting worse.

Toolbin in the spare wheel area isn’t fixed properly, previous owner likely had a spare wheel, and swapped that to her new Twingo, putting in the toolbin, but forgetting the securing nut. (Sort of solved by stuffing in some fabric to keep it from rattling.)

Both front seats are stained by rainwater falling into the car when the doors are opened, and I once put frozen left-overs in a bag on the passengers seat causing another stain.

That list is quite a bit longer than I expected, well maybe I’m just extremely critical.

Not bad at all. The driveline shunt on my car comes with a clunk and is driving me mad. Dont have access to somewhere to work on it for another week though. Hoping its subframe bushes causing the subframe to shift when power is applied. The shunt is more of an elastic bounce that settles once im up to speed.

Kinja'd!!!1

Ugly frame and suspension surface corrosion.

The bead is garbage so the tires leak air.

Every surface is scratched, some surfaces are faded.

Front bumper’s broken.

Every front end panel is misaligned

Zip ties are holding all the plastic on the front of my car on.

Front backing plates rub on both the wheels and the control arms.

Front tires sometimes rub on the fender liners.

Takes ages to kick down.

Left rear window doesn’t work.

Right front window is manual now, with a card holding it up.

Worn ignition barrel means the keys sometimes slip out.

Needs the toe adjusted (damn potholes).

Clunk from front right sway bar end link (probably a decimated bushing).

Clunk from rear suspension (probably a control arm bushing).

Parking brake doesn’t really work.

A/C is broken.

Might have a bent right rear steel wheel (potholes).

Left exterior mirror is no longer power adjustable.

Underhood light socket is destroyed (no idea how that happened).

Two different indicators (one from an LX, one from a base model).

The door locks and the ignition tumbler don’t have the same key pattern (and I don’t think it came with a key that works in the door locks).

The side-dump scrapes over speed bumps. And moderate driveway lips. And sometimes intersections.

Oh yeah, the front bumper also occasionally scrapes.

I go through a set of front tires every few months due to a very aggressive alignment, and a set of rear tires every few months because, well, you know.

Various interior trim bits squeak and/or clunk.

Various exterior trim bits squeak and/or clunk.

There are bits of plastic under the front seats that match the interior but I have no idea what they’re from as every interior panel seems to be intact.

Rides like a total bounce house (shocks are still good, but I need stiffer shocks).

Drain plug head is stripped so I have to hammer on a smaller SAE socket every time I want to change the oil.

Plastic belly pan has slightly melted due to scraping.

It’s too low to fit on a floor jack without ramps and/or a scissor jack.

In-tank sensor says I’m out of gas when I’m really not (15l left).

Heated mirrors kinda suck.

Automatic headlights only sometimes detect it’s overcast.

Wiper motor sucks (choose from too much or not enough).

When I had it routed out the back, the axle sometimes clanged against the exhaust.

Emits a single, tiny whiff of oil smoke out the exhaust after it’s been sitting for a while.

Oil pressure gauge is very sketchy.

One tone ring just doesn’t exist anymore (thanks to that deciding to disintegrate, I have the zip tied front end and a new wheel speed sensor).

A large hole mysteriously drilled into a panel (that’s hidden under trim).

Horn is on it’s way out.

Both upper rear spring isolators decided to disintegrate into several pieces each, leading to a couple squeaks from the rear springs as they jiggle a bit on the upper perches under hard cornering now (still plenty of pre-load, just a 3mm gap in width between the locator and the spring).

Spiders living in the front fenders.

Damn, what a hooptie.

Trac Off button broken

Hood paint is rock chipped to hell

Stumbly idle when stone cold

Cupholders broken. All of them.

Possible vacuum leak

Throwout bearing is slighty noisy

Key remotes don’t work

Hood roundel missing

Electrical gremlins when it’s super cold out.

Well, the Blazer’s lost 3rd and 4th, and leaked a ton of fluid from one of the seals... whole transmission needs to be rebuilt and replaced.

It also needs new CV joints, has no rockers left, wiper fluid spray doesn’t work, ABS doesn’t work, cruise control doesn’t work, AC doesn’t work, the passenger seat controls are broken/janky, it’s missing the driver’s side nerf bar, and the previous owner blacked out the taillights, put in shitty blue headlights, and wired the passenger side sun visor permanently in the up position to hold a CB radio that is no longer there.

Oh and the hatch requires two people to open: One near the steering wheel to hold the switch, another to physically pull open the glass.

Heater bypassed as the matrix is leaking- top of the list to get sorted as it’s getting cold now.

Carpet still a bit damp from above.

No A/C as most of the system was taken out when I pulled the engine. Unrelated to the heater.

Clutch judder when damp.

Knackered rear shocks and springs. Odd stance with the new setup on the front.

Engine mounts tired.

New front shocks/springs/control arms, but now got some noise to track down, possibly wheel bearing.

Brakes need bleeding, which I’m planning to do with pads/discs.

Rear calipers need TLC again.

Remote Central locking will only lock.

The car previously had light front damage- someone cut away the arch liners for a bodge repair for some reason.

Mismatched front grille. It came with a factory chicken wire grille that I sold for half what I paid for the car.

Front bumper has some some of my paintwork on it.

Dent in bonnet.

Front wheel arch cladding needs reattaching properly.

Clutch cable getting stiff again.

Small dent in passenger door.

Wheels need a refurb.

Peeling clearcoat on plastic side cladding.

Some rust where cladding has rubbed on the bodywork

More rust that I don’t want to think about underneath.

Cables going in to the rear hatch stress fractured, fixed with crimps and insulation tape so it’s only a matter of time before they break again.

Rear window wiper blades need replacing.

Exhaust is mostly hanging on through luck. It’s got a leaking joint that I need to put a new gasket in.

FM radio doesn’t work.

Annoying squeak from the steering column after Suzuki recalled it to stop it catching fire.

Also, it’s not been washed for some time and is filthy.

Yes, this is my Daily driver, and yes the MOT is due next month...

Well, I’m not going to win, but:

-Minor Oil leak(1L/2k miles)

-GPS doesn’t work

-Drivers side impact airbag is throwing a code

-Barometric pressure sensor causes a CEL once a month or so, I just clear it and wait till next month

-squeak/groan coming from front passenger side suspension when I turn at parking lot speeds, I suspect its the bearing that’s supposed to allow the strut to spin is checking out.

-automatic wipers not working because the sensor was misaligned when the windshield was replaced.

aaand that’s it. Not bad for a 210k mile e46.

Rust on rear chassis legs

Faulty idle speed controller

Rust everywhere else

Various rattles from front and rear suspension

Did I mention rust?

Goes into neutral and then into first with a bang if you slow to almost a halt and then accelerate before it has finished changing to first

Sometimes changes down to first with a series of jolts as you stop

Central locking doesn’t

LH door window sometimes doesn’t work

LH front speaker sometimes doesn’t speak

Radio has poor reception

Only about six lines of the heated rear window heat

Bearing in the a/c compressor is on the way out

Tappets tap when cold

Yes, Fiat diesel. GM use Fiat designed engines on their smaller cars.

Case International tractors use Fiat engines.

Project Thanks Obama, the 1995 Dodge Dakota

Rust. Rust everywhere. Tailgate is unrepairable, the rest, well here’s hoping
The whole thing is dented up
Driver side reverse lamp won’t light up. Haven’t been able to solve
Exhaust is literally held up by HVAC tape and baling wire
Horn doesn’t work
Rear bumper is off to the side just so , so getting to the spare tire mechanism is a pain. Not off to the side enough to do something about
Center console pad is nonexistent; passenger rides with their elbow resting on the spring hinge
Cupholders are broke. Got new cupholders, they broke
Seats are worn out, but not bad enough to warrant replacing
It leaks coolant a bit. Not enough to warrant a repair just yet
It leaks oil a bit. Not enough to warrant a repair just yet
It burns some oil (thanks, belly-pan gasket bullshit!)
Headlight reminder doesn’t remind, leading to some dead batteries some times
Front suspension still needs some work. It tracks straight but is loose
Driver rear brake drum is out-of-round
Parking brake doesn’t do anything
Door lock actuators are lazy, can take five attempts to unlock a door

That’s all I can think of right now

-Squeak from LF suspension when going over bumps, but only sometimes

-Oil pressure sender/gauge is broken

-Paint needs jesus in some places, dents

-Third brake light cover is melted (I have a new one ready to put on but I need to buy LEDs)

-Noisy clutch when pedal is not depressed

-Small oil leak. So small it can’t even be noticed on the dipstick, but there’s oil film on the pan

-clunk at low speeds when turning that just showed up after I did an alignment yesterday

That’s pretty much the extent of it on the S10. Oh, the defrost vent is cracked too.

1997 Jeep Cherokee

4.0 engine. Runs like a total dog, has no oil pressure, sounds like a diesel. Every seal and gasket oozes oil.

AX-15 trans. Shifts like a chunk of rebar sticking out of a bucket of concrete. Leaks oil from the case split line. Clutch master cylinder keeps failing because I modified the pedal assembly wrong.

NP231 transfer case: front output seal is shot. Sift linkage is the most shamefully cobbled together thing I’ve ever done. It even incorporates a 1/4" drive 6" extension booger welded in.

C 8.25" rear axle. Desperately needs a fluid change, but it has 4.56 gears, so that’s good.

Dana 30 front. Missing the outer dust seals, pinion seal leaks, also needs new fluid, ball joints address beyond sketchy, also sketchy: sway bar delete. I know, I know... fight me.

Other: windshield leaks water into passenger floor, rear seat is missing the brackets that hold it in place, rear leaf spring bushings squeak like mad, driver seat needs attention, the paint is totally shot, the Shittybuilt winch is falling apart, I’ve got an EVAP code that I can’t figure out for the life of me, power locks are iffy, the front header panel is held on by 2 bolts... 12 mpg.

I’m sure I’m forgetting a lot of things. I still love it and will never, ever sell it.

My mini

- rust bubbling on most panels

- a ‘stubborn’ gearbox which doesn’t always change gear

- a big dent in the roof where some moron sat on it

- a wonky bonnet

- windscreen with some pretty big stone chips (I’ve been told this may have been where it was shot at)

- a grille held on with a single screw

- the worst stereo I’ve ever seen in a car (cheap tinny speakers and an awful head unit)

- an interior that rattles and squeaks

- a wonky steering wheel (needs an alignment I guess)

- a petrol tank that won’t fill higher than about halfway

- an interior which smells of a weird mix of dust, WD40 and magic tree

- orange peeled paint where people have repaired it before I got it

Probably a load of other things I like to forget about too haha...

My dome light is burnt out, sometimes my rear wiper doesn’t work properly, and my tires could be replaced soon.....

Oh yeah, a couple door dings, and one scrape on the underside of the front bumper that is only visible from a couple angles, but it bothers me to no end

-Leaky radiator

-Leaky oil pan/timing cover/rear main

-leaky rack and pinion and lines

-power steering pump screams at full lock

-carrier bearing grinds under moderate to heavy acceleration

-entire electrical system runs at about 40% power

-misfire, probably from 1+ leaky injectors

-clunk over bumps, probably broken sway bar link

-hatch struts blown

-and cosmetically, rust, faded paint and huge dents on every panel, passenger mirror broken off.

I might give it a try. It has a cat that im not removing so it wont be a full straight pipe. If its too loud its only cost me a bit of pipe and a flange.

Yeah crank sensors are almost a service item when a car gets to a certain age. Micras eat them for some reason, changed it in every insipid micra weve had.
